1st 1000km!

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

1st 1000km!

Post

Ok, in a brand new commercial car you must 1st 1000km drive
it easily or in low rev's for a reason that the engine isn't "ready" for
high rev's!
I wan't to know how is that thing in a F1 engine!
Do the teams have to run the engine in low rev's for xxx km on dyno or
the engine's are so sofisticated that this "1000km" thing isn't necesary??

Its not really a matter of engine sophistication, street cars must be driven lightly during the break in period to ensure proper ring seal. While this can be argued, some say high rpm useage is the way to properly break in rings, it is mainly a question of what is best for the engine in the long run. For example, an engine thats not broken in broken in properly may produce a few HP less than one that is, and last only 90k as opposed to the 150k of one that is. Does longevity (of the high mileage type) matter to an f1 team? Not really seeing as how the engines are torn down and rebuilt after every race.

Well I've read that Ferrari puts every F1 engine for 50 km on the dyno! But they don't keep it easy they go through all regimes in order to be sure that there are not any leaks, cracks or any kind of problems! It's a big risk to put a "just-built" engine on the car with the new 1 engine/race rule....the engine might have a prob that wasn't detected during building and if you don't put it on the dyno for a run it might break the first time it's started. But if F1 it's done in order to just check the engine!
