Just a thought...Which two drivers...?

Post

If you had a limited budget team (i.e. can't spend too much on driver salaries) which two drivers would you pick?
What would be the best two drivers you could get for the money?

For me I would chose Nick Heidfeld and Nico Rosberg.
If Rosberg is too expensive I might even chose Kamui Kobayashi. My original thought was Kubica with Heidfeld but I realized he would require a salary that's way too high.
Your thoughts?

Well this would be better in a 2-choices-available style poll

And what would be the budget? maybe what you perceive as limited is quite grand for me, or vice versa.

One of the drivers for me would be Sutil.
He is best bang for your bucks, and quite underrated IMHO

I personally think he is one of the most overrated driver in F1 at the moment for that exact reason. Everyone been saying he is underrated for the past few years, but frankly he has been nothing but ordinary other than the few solid performance every now and then. Before this season he usually crashes out before the finish whenever he
is in a scoring position. Even Mike Gascoyne said he crashes too much.

If I have to pick two drivers it would be Kobayashi and Rosberg.

you along with Mr. Gascoyne and any other member in this forum are entitled to your own opinion.
But the most "overrated" driver(s) for me at the moment are Liuzzi and Trulli.
Why it is difficult to compare drivers in different teams.
I would choose Sutil over Liuzzi at any time, and before we continue with this thread we may want to establish a price/pay limit or guideline. As the difference between 200.000€ and 8.000.000€ (Sutil vs. Rosberg) is quite striking to me.
Why I do think, that Rosberg is a talented driver, I dont think he is 40x better then Rosberg. So if I where Lotus (or a new team) and I had the 8M, I would still hire Sutil and use the rest to develop the car, as this will yield the larger gains in the long term - IMHO

agree on the value of rosberg vs sutil

Agree on Glock
diResta needs to be seen in F1 under race conditions, but is a strong possibility.
Paffet would be another one - IMHO

I agree with a lot of people on here. Liuzzi is extremely overrated, he is past his "prime".
Sutil seems overrated for me about 70% of the time then he goes and has a solid weekend at Spa.
That is crazy about the salary of Sutil. Force India are a 2nd-tier team and he is their "shoe-in" number 1 driver and only makin 200K a year? Blows my mind.
diResta needs a chance at FI!
Kobayashi and Rosberg would be impressive, but I want Heidfeld back in the sport.

I'd go with Buemi and Sutil.
Sutil is not overrated, the only problem last year was that his talents were bigger than the car could handle. Now he has a car with higher limits, he driving pretty solidly, nothing between him and Kubica atm.

Sutil is like a cheap Kubica, only faster and not overrated too!

Buemi is very good that's all i have to say. Solid driver who is doing pretty well as a team leader.
For Sure!!

I liked the Heidfeld comment on sutil when Adrian last year after a spin rejoined onto the track collecting Heidfeld in total stupidity:"I heard his mechanics are still looking for his brains in the truck but could not find it yet."..Sutil has made so many unforced errors ..first lap incidents etc at hte start of his F1 career.but he seems to
have matured since last year and has really showed promise lately.

Heidfeld would be too expensive unfortunatelly ..but i rate him as good as Kubica i wonder what Mercedes would have achieved without the added pressure of Michael Schumacher in year one.

Have to admit I was shocked with some of these figures!

Alonso's salary (30M) exceeds what Ferrari would pay if they had Schumacher (8M), Massa (14M) AND Barrichello (5.5M) in his place! Then, with the 14M they pay Massa they could have Vettel (2M), Webber (4.2M) and Kubica (7.5M) as well, and 300.000 change so they could afford team orders on three races!

With what Lotus is paying for Trulli (3M) and Kovalainen (2M), I would go for Sutil and Kobayashi for a total of 700.000. I'm not a huge fan of Sutil but at this price it's a no brainer, especially since the car seems unable to do any better anyway! I wonder how much Irvine, Verstappen or Villeneuve would ask to do a Schumi. They should be able to stay ahead of the HRTs, the Virgins would DNF anyway and I would have shitloads of free publicity and a lot of fun!!!

These salaries might not be all that they seem. Some of the lower salaries that seem out of place might have some pretty sweet performance incentives that we don't get to see. We also don't know how much of Alonso's salary is paid by Ferrari proper or Santander.

Veering slightly off topic I would like to see some races offering purses to the winner, like how the winner of the Indy 500 gets a million dollar cheque.

As for my two budget choices, I'd go with Kobyashi and Sutil.

for 5M my picks would probably be:

1. Webber + Kobayashi or Alguersuari
2. Vellel + Kobayashi or Glock or Alguersuari
