Car Numbers

Post

Is it upto the team or FIA on which driver gets which number? I seen that the FIA have revised the 2011 entries list and given Lewis the number 3 that was originally given to Jenson.

I would think that the driver who scored more points that season would get the odd number (or higher number)... but Michael Schumacher has been given the odd number over Rosberg but maybe this is because he prefers to race with odd numbers (the reason given for him pinching his number this year).

Finally, why is it that all drivers have their name displayed on the TV timings as "HAM - Lewis Hamilton", "BUT - Jenson Button" but Michael Schumacher is the only driver for his name to be displayed as MSC? Does this go back to the days of when he and Ralph raced together? If thats the case why aint they reverted back to SCH?

Teams have prefrence of who gets what number, exept from the number 1, that always goes to the previous years WDC. Schumacher has a phobia of even numbers, and Rosberg doesnt really car, so MSC gets number 7 for next year.

And on MSC, the reason for that denotation is when his brother used to race they has two SCUs on the timing screen, and so they decided to change them both for MSC fro Michael and RSC for Ralf. Ideally he could go back to SCU now but now people are used to MSC theres no use to change it.

More on Driver numbers are generally a team prefrence. The numbers are allocated to the team and not to a driver.

I have no idea why they would give Jenson number 3 and then to give him number 4? Dunno why Schumacher has a phobia of even numbers... given that this year was his worst he should maybe look at having a phobia at odds

Primarily the entry list application needs to be in at arround the 3rd of 4th last GP of they year. At that point Jenson was leading Lewis in the points and McLaren were looking at that. Lewis had a strong last 3 GP and came in ahead of Jenson who had a poor in comparison last 3 GP.

Thing is, the entry list is just that at the moment, an entry list. The final entry list should come out about 14 days before the first GP, that is more or less the final notification of who is in what car for the season ahead, or at least at the start. But by then the drivers have been out testing and that in its self more or less is confirmation.

There ane many diffrent reasons.

Look at Hispania last year, Senna decided he wanted the number 2 seat at that team last year with Chandhok being the number 1 driver. He asked and got.

Some teams go by tradition, some by driver prefrence.

After the race in Canada, Lewis lead the championship, and he hasn't been beat by Jenson in the points since... so I'm not sure which race you're talking about with Jenson leading Lewis in the points before the last 3 or 4 GP? :s

McL could have used 2010 order or alphabetic order on the entry form, with 2011 order to be confirmed at the end of the season.

ESP - are you sure Schumacher abbreviated to SCU rather than SCH?
