F1 Instrumentation

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

F1 Instrumentation

Post

With the several tests run in the pre-season, we could see a lot of interesting instrumentation for aero, heat and mechanical displacement measurements, which rose my curiosity on this subject. I'm kind of "new" in motorsport technology, so I bring a lot of questions: What kind of instruments are used, and what kind of information is measured in tests and during races? How is that info collected and how does telemetry work with them? Is some kind of industrial network (like CAN) used to connect a central electronics to the sensors? How is grounding - or signal references - handled and how are the sensors shielded and its signals filtered from the high noise?
