Hamilton and Alonso penalized by FIA

Post

I was thinking of putting marbles in your hubcaps or vegetable oil in your exhaust or a chicken bouillon in your shower head or food coloring in the office liquid soap, but this seemed a better option.

Happy April's Fool day, mods!

I think the FIA are having a laugh. If they want to be consistent then how about the amount of weaving Vettel was doing down to turn 1 at the start!? He changed direction at least three times forcing Hamilton off the throttle.

I don't think that he should be punished for that, but equally when was Hamilton weaving to even that extent, let alone worse!?

Didnt Lewis got himself a warning for weaving at Sepang last year??

So in reality only Hamilton has been penalised because only he lost a place as a result...

I just don't understand this one... Isn't having to pit and losing not one but six positions as a result punishment enough for Hamilton? As for Alonso, he did have to pit for a new FW too. They were both at fault in this case so why was that not just logged as a race incident?

I think the run down to turn 1 on the first lap is the exception that more than one direction change is allowed, or every driver would have a 20 second penalty.

The rules are clear that a driver can only make one change of direction. hamilton made 3. Being picked up for it is fair but the penalty is maybe a bit harsh.

@andrew - there's no rule saying that the weaving doesn't apply down to turn 1. You can make more than one move if you're trying to overtake the guy in front but not to defend.

Rightly or wrongly what Hamilton did was no worse than any number of other drivers, such as Massa in Australia whilst defending from Button, Vettel at the start, one of the Renaults defending from Webber, etc. Either punish no one or punish them all - all I ask for is consistency, something the FIA still seems incapable of giving.
