Missing nose/floor support on the Mclarens...

Post

Hi all, first post, looks like just the place to raise something i spotted recently.

Lewis damaged his car in ?australia? when he did a bit of off roading, this broke the rod that connects the front of the floor to the underside of the nose (around the area where the driver's legs would be). Ever since this race, this part seems to have been removed. Someone on the beeb claimed this was a regulatory piece which seems to suggest the Mclaren is not fit for purpose.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Welcome to the forum!

I think you're referring to what's sometimes called a bib-stay, and McLaren have not had one of these since last season when the more stringent floor tests were introduced.

I think there's some images to confirm this in the flexible wings 2010 thread (toward the end IIRC).

Incorrect – Lewis did a bit of off roading because the bib broke – Martin Brundle called the broken tray before he offroaded.

Nope – was never there.

Nothing regulatory about it – the bib just has to not flex – other teams have done this by strengthening the bib stay, McLaren have found a different solution.
