I'm staying Zen - Alonso

Fernando Alonso is only a breath away from his big dream, but says that he isn't thinking about the championship. He wants this race to be a weekend like any other. The Spaniard needs to finish on the podium to become the youngest World Champion in Brazil.

Interview with Fernando Alonso

Fernando, how are you sleeping at the moment? You have a big weekend ahead…
"I’m sleeping fine, thanks! I spent a night in the plane this week so maybe I am a bit behind, but everything is fine otherwise. I know it’s an important weekend and I want to do my best. For me and the team, we need to score points."

There are even more photographers than usual following you. Is it a distraction?
"Not really. I am in my world, focused on the job and to an extent, I don’t notice them. I know everybody is expecting a special weekend, but I am calm. Yes, I could win the title this weekend. But I might have a problem which could help Kimi get closer. And the constructors’ title is very important as well: we will have to fight for it. There is no point putting pressure on ourselves."

Are you aiming for the podium?
"I am not changing anything compared to normal. I want to have an aggressive race. We have a car capable of fighting for the podium, that’s for sure. We have some new aero and engine parts. For the drivers, Interlagos is a difficult circuit, very bumpy, and anti-clockwise as well."

What is your state of mind? Are you counting the points, or wishing the title was won so you could drive for fun?
"I am driving for fun, don’t worry! I love fighting on the track, and that’s what we have been doing since the start of the year."
