Ecclestone also pushing for standard engines

Formula One is up for a revolution as both Max Mosley and Bernie Ecclestone are pushing the teams to support the idea of a standard engine formula. The FIA yesterday confirmed that F1 must urgently cut costs or else might end alltogether.

Speaking to the Times yesterday, Ecclestone confirmed he adheres to the standard engine idea to reduce Fomula One's operating costs: “The thing I am most excited about is pushing and pushing and pushing the homologated engine idea.”

“The new engine will be equalised and there will only be two engine changes a year, so costs are going to dramatically come down, and I mean dramatically.”

The idea is also fuelled by some manufacturers lobbying work to equalise the engines. One of them is Renault, who have suffered badly in terms of engine performance this year as they took the engine freeze regulations literally. Mercedes and Ferrari on the other hand pushed on with developments that have gained them a significant power advantage by now.
