Shanghai likely to continue hosting F1 event past 2010

Despite recent talks of the Chinese Grand Prix not extending it's contract to hold Formula One events past 2010, the organisers of the event have dismissed those supposed talks and have expressed positive views regarding the Grand Prix's future past that year.

"I think it's probably some misunderstanding in translation. I would say it's likely it will stay after 2010. Formula One has only been here for five years. To build a spectator base is not easy, it's a long term operation," said Leon Sun, General Manager of GP organisers Juss Events, to 'Reuters' over a telephone interview.

Sun also added, "Research shows there are more and more race fans in China, so I don't think we will say no to the Formula One Grand Prix," which is promising since only about 80,000 spectators attended the Chinese GP this year, out of the 200,000 seat capacity of the Shanghai facility.

But nothing is for sure as of yet, since discussions and decisions have yet to take place within the board members of Juss Events, before the future of the Chinese GP at Shanghai beyond 2010 is secured.
