Malaysia to keep day race at least until 2015

The Malaysian GP will continue the current evening race format at least until the current contract with the FOM ends in 2015, says the chairman of the Sepang International Circuit, Mokhzani Mahathir. This statement goes against FOM boss Bernie Ecclestone's wishes for the Malaysian GP to change into a night race, which would benefit the European audiences.

"We have amended the contract. The race will start at 5:00pm. It is another way of saying that there will be no night race until 2015," Mahathir said to the 'AFP' news agency.

The owners of the circuit are reluctant to hold the race at night due to the current financial situation, since the costs for setting up the lighting system are extremely high.
