For the Spanish GP BMW Sauber will not be running their KERS device on either car, Mario Theissen has explained. The regenerative system has been taken out in order to introduce an important aero upgrade, which will take it's place in the development aspect of the free practices.

"We will not be equipping either car with KERS in Barcelona," declared Theissen. "It was a case of lining up with either a comprehensive aerodynamic update or KERS. The tuning time on Friday would be too short."

"We may come back to KERS in Turkey," he added, which is reasonable since by then the new aero package will have been tried and tested sufficiently.

While also saying that their KERS system has been running fine, "From a technical point of view, the results are positive. The system has worked flawlessly up to now."

Although a double deck diffuser is not a part of the new aerodynamic upgrade, "The Barcelona-spec aero package has long been in development. Therefore a double diffuser introduced at short notice wouldn't have brought us any benefit."
