Unnecessary ballast is sweated out in F1 says Lauda

Niki Lauda is not concerned about the carmaker exodus, following the withdrawal of Honda, BMW and Toyota. The three times World Champion wrote in his column for 'Bild' that a new era in Formula One is dawning after the departure of the "unnecessary ballast".

Lauda wrote: "F1 at the moment is like a sauna, where the unnecessary ballast is sweated out and afterwards there is a new start.

"I am convinced that Mercedes' philosophy will be adopted by other manufacturers and we could even see new ones coming in over the course of the next few years."
