FP1: Bottas tops short session as CCTV blackout curtails action

By on

Alfa Romeo driver Valtteri Bottas set the fastest lap time in the opening practice at the Canadian Grand Prix after the session was curtailed by a CCTV blackout.

Just minutes into the session, the originally 60-minute practice was red-flagged after Pierre Gasly’s Alpine ground to a halt minutes into the session.

Although Gasly’s car was quickly recovered, the session could not be restarted as the race control lost access to CCTV footage due to a power issue.

While repair jobs were carried out to the local cameras, the clock continued to tick down and the session eventually timed out with no further action.
