Sainz fined after practice day in Imola

On the back of a strong opening day at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Williams driver Carlos Sainz has been fined for exceeding the speed limit in the first practice session.
Having displayed eye-catching pace last time out in Miami, Carlos Sainz continued to impress on Day 1 at Imola. The Spaniard was even in the mix with the big four teams in the opening session, ending up third.
Posting impressive lap times in FP2 as well, Sainz now seems to have well and truly got to grips with the FW45. However, he slightly dropped down the order, taking tenth in the second one-hour session.
Despite his strong showing on Friday, the Madrid-born driver was handed a fine of EUR1000 for having exceeded the speed limit in the pit lane.
The incident happened in the opening session when Sainz reached 93.7kph in the pit lane instead of the speed limit of 80 kph.
