Piastri and Albon hit penalty after opening day in Montreal

Following the opening day at the Canadian Grand Prix, Williams driver Alex Albon and McLaren's Oscar Piastri have been hit with a fine for having exceeded the pit lane speed limit.

Championship leader Oscar Piastri had a tough opening day at the Canadian Grand Prix, having struggled for pace in the first two practice sessions at Montreal.

Piastri was found of having exceeded the pit lane limit in the opening practice session, albeit he was just 0.3kph quicker than the maximum allowed 80 kph. As a result of the incident, he has been fined EUR100.

"Car 81 exceeded the pit lane speed limit which is set at 80 km/h for this event by 0.3 km/h," the stewards' statement read.

Williams racer Alex Albon ended up fourth fastest in Free Practice 2, having displayed eye-catching pace throughout the entire practice day at Montreal. However, the Thai driver exceeded the speed limit by 011 kph for which he was fined EUR100 for the incident.
