MOTOGP: Key takeaways from the Czech Grand Prix

Marc Marquez took another dominant victory at last Sunday’s Czech Grand Prix to extend his championship lead to well over 100 points. F1Technical’s senior writer Balazs Szabo delivers thekey takeaways from the Brno round.

Championship - Following his latest victory, Marc Marquez now leads the drivers’ championship by 120 points ahead of his brother Alex. Two-time MotoGP champion Francesco Bagnaia is a further 48 points behind.

Best of the rest - The highest placed non-Ducati driver is Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi, who is fourth in the standings thanks to his second place at Brno. The second highest placed driver with a bike that does not come from Borgo Panigale is Pedro Acosta, who has collected a total of 124 points so far, and occupies P7 in the standings.

Best result - Pedro Acosta clinched his first sprint podium on Saturday since last year’s Aragon short race before he went on to secure his first podium finish of the season on Sunday.

No points - The Brno round was Alex Marquez’s worst weekend of the season so far. The Spaniard collected no points this weekend, having finished down in P17 on Saturday before crashing out on Sunday.

History - Marc Marquez has written history at Brno by having won five concecutive grands prix with Ducati which has never happened to a rider racing for the Borgo Panigale-based team.

Super sub - Having last raced at last season’s Misano round, Pol Espargaro made his comeback last weekend to replace Maverick Vinales. The Spanish rider delivered a faultless performance to take the chequered flag in P10 which then became a ninth-placed finish following a time penalty for Fermin Aldeguer.

Three manufacturers - The Brno round marked the second time this season that three different manufacturers represented themselves on the podium.

At Silverstone, Aprilia’s Bezzecchi took the honours, beating Honda’s Johann Zarco and Ducati’s Marquez. This last Sunday saw Marquez take victory for Ducati, with Aprilia’s Bezzecchi and KTM’s Acosta finishing behind.

Ducati’s dominance - The Borgo Panigale-based team continues to lead the teams’ standings (594 points), with Ducati also maintaining the top spot in the manufacturers’ standings (430 points).

Emotional weekend - Jorge Martin made his long-awaited comeback at last weekend’s Brno round. The reigning champion finished the Czech GP in seventh position – an impressive result on his comeback. The Spanish rider also confirmed on Thursday that he will remain with Aprilia in 2026.
