Six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez took a sensational victory in the 10-lap Brno MotoGP Sprint while KTM factory rider Pedro Acosta finished runner-up with a faultless performance. F1Technical's senior writer Balazs Szabo reports on the Brno Sprint.

Two-time MotoGP champion Francesco Bagnaia secured his first pole position of the season with only a single flying lap in Q2. The Italian then had a good getaway from the line, maintaining the lead into Turn 1.

However, his team-mate Marc Marquez was eager to take over the lead and the Spaniard did not wait for long, going past Bagnaia at Turn 3. In the meantime, KTM rider Pedro Acosta also had a brilliant start to his race, starting from seventh on the grid to end up fourth at the end of the opening lap.

By contrast, Alex Marquez, who is second in the drivers' standings, had a nightmare start to his 10-lap Brno Sprint, tumbling down the order to P20 after suffering a heavy wheelspin at the start.

On Lap 2, Yamaha rider Augusto Fernandez slid off and collected Honda's Takaaki Nakagami, with the collision ending both their Sprints.

The next lap saw Acosta get himself ahead of Fabio Quartararo to move up into a podium position. The Frenchman then lost another place on the next lap as KTM Tech 3 rider Enea Bastianini made a manoeuvre to move into fourth.

At the front, Marc Marquez was building up a healthy gap. The next moment saw drama start to unfold when Bagnaia slowed down on the exit of Turn 4. The Italian was passed by Acosta, Bastianini and Quartararo.

A lap later, his team-mate Marc Marquez did the same which allowed Acosta to move into the lead. It quickly became apparent that both Ducatis had issues with the tyre pressure as Bagnaia and Marquez were able to regain their pace.

However, Bagnaia lost another place when Marco Bezzecchi passed him at Turn 11. The two-time MotoGP champion found himself down in P6, but he was challenged by Raul Fernandez as well.

On the penultimate lap, Bezzecchi worked his way into fourth ahead of Quartararo while Marquez looked eager to regain the lead from Acosta.

The six-time MotoGP champion did not hesitate as he made a move on Acosta on the direction change from Turn 8 into Turn 9. The Spaniard then managed to hold on to the lead to take his 11th Sprint victory of the season.

Acosta managed to take second place, recording his first sprint podium since Aragon 2024, with Bastianini completing the Brno Sprint podium.

Bezzecchi claimed fourth place ahead of Quartararo. The last lap saw Fernandez make a move on Bagnaia whilst Johann Zarco and Pol Espargaro, who stood in for the injured Maverick Vinales, completed the points-paying positions.

Having returned to race action, reigning champion Jorge Martin finished in 11th for Aprilia, while Alex Marquez finished well outside the points in P17.

Despite his brilliant victory in the Brno Sprint, Marquez was under investigation for a potential tyre pressure infringement, but the FIA stewards ruled that no rule was breached, so the Spaniard was allowed to keep his triumph.
