Formula E: Alpine and Ferrari junior drivers reflect on the difficulties of driving an FE car

On the back of the Berlin Formula E rookie test, Ferrari junior driver Dino Beganovic and Alpine junior racer Kush Maini have shared their thoughts regarding their experiences behind the Mahindra Formula E car.

Following last weekend's Berlin E-Prix, the Formula E teams elongated their stay in Germany's capital by a day to complete the rookie test at the Tempelhof Airport Circuit.

Formula 2 drivers Kush Maini and Dino Beganovic drove for the Mahindra outfit. The Ferrari junior driver ended the day in P12 while Alpine's junior driver set the third-fastest time overall.

For the Indian driver, it was not the first team behind the wheel of a Formula E car as he has already completed a rookie session in Jeddah in which he put the Mahindra on top of the time sheets.

Reflecting on a good day's work behind the wheel, Kush Maini said: "Today has been another really positive day, working together with Mahindra. We focused on a mixture of different programmes, but whatever the run plan, we've been up there throughout the day and competitive.

"I always get a good feeling driving this car, and working with this team. We got some good data for the team to take forwards to London and ticked every box we had on our plan."

Adding his thoughts after his first experience in Formula E, Dino Beganovic added: "I think it was a positive day. We got a good amount of laps in this morning and completed all of the tests we wanted to do for the afternoon, so I'm pretty happy.

"I got up to speed fairly quickly, it's obviously a very different car to what I'm used to driving, but I think it was positive. Hopefully the team is happy with that, and I got a lot of experience. I wish the team the best of luck for the next race in London."

Having tracked both youngster's progress across the team, Mahindra Racing CEO and Team Principal, Frederic Bertrand, concluded: "I've been really impressed with what I've seen from both Kush and Dino today.

"The annual Rookie Test is designed to give rising stars a chance to experience Formula E, but for us as teams, it's always a benefit when you can get two extremely quick, talented drivers in the cars, because testing in this championship is so limited, and so therefore very valuable when developing the car for the future.

"They both applied themselves and worked through the programmes. Kush is always among the quickest drivers every time we have a rookie session, and for Dino's first experience of Formula E, he also adapted very quickly to the car and was competitive.

"Overall, it was a strong day for both drivers, and it's given our engineers plenty of data to work with as we prepare for London, and to end the season on a high note."
