On the back of a series of tough races, McLaren driver Oscar Piastri bounced back to win the Qatar F1 Sprint, with Mercedes driver George Russell and his team-mate Lando Norris having completed the podium.

Starting from pole position, Oscar Piastri kept the lead at the start and displayed a faultless performance to claim a dominant lights-to-flag victory in the Qatar Grand Prix sprint race.

Mercedes driver George Russell kept his second starting position at the start and he was able to maintain P2 ahead of the championship leader Lando Norris.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen gained two places with a brilliant start to take fourth. Although he put serious pressure on Norris on the opening laps, he struggled with bouncing and had to settle for P4, losing further points to Norris in the championship fight.

Yuki Tsunoda and Kimi Antonelli finished fifth and sixth for Red Bull and Mercedes respectively, after both drivers picked up five-second time penalties for repeated track limits infringements.

Fernando Alonso was seventh for Aston Martin, while Carlos Sainz scored the final point on offer in eighth place in his Williams.

On the back of a dreadful qualifying session, Ferrari endured a shock result in the 19-lap Qatar F1 Sprint, with both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton struggling for pace. The Monegasque could only finish 13th, while his British team-mate was a lowly 17th.
