Big changes for F1!

Formula One is up for a real 'changement de decor' as a lot of drivers seem to plan to switch teams after this season. Who will driver for which team isn't really clear at this point since the media is spreading a lot of rumours.

The only driver that has already confirmed his team for the 2007 Formula One Championship is World Champion Fernando Alonso. Alonso already said he signed a contract with McLaren Mercedes before the beginning of the 2006 season. Though the Spaniard will switch teams, he's very keen on winning the championship once more with Renault.

That brings us to McLaren Mercedes. Kimi Raikkonen, the biggest rival of Alonso last season, has been linked with Ferrari for some while. The Finn would have already signed a contract with McLaren, but Raikkonen keeps his lips sealed. Only last week the news about Raikkonen was that he was offered a 143million deal with Renault for 4 years.

Team mate Juan Pablo Montoya doesn't really seem happy with McLaren. Last season he had to let Kimi win the races as he was called into the pits at every crucial moment and this season, Montoya has a lot of problems with the new car. This weekend, the Colombain threw away his mirror during the free practice session on Saturday because it was vibrating that much that it came loose. Before JP had problems with the engine and the team refused to change it. Only problems for Montoya at McLaren it seems. The Colombian talent has been linked with Renault and Red Bull Racing.

Seven-times World Champion Michael Schumacher has been given 'carte blanche' from Ferrari. The German can decide when and what he'll do. Will he stop racing in the pinnacle of motorsport? Or will he leave Ferrari for another team? One thing is for sure: Schumacher and Raikkonen in one team wouldn't be the perfect match since both drivers are determined to win.

At Renault Giancarlo Fisichella's contract comes to an end as well. It's not sure though if Renault will give the Italian another contract since Fisico isn't performing as he should. Heikki Kovalainen, the test driver of Renault has a big chance to be at the wheel of one of the two race cars next season, but who will partner him the team will announce after Monaco (normally).

Mark Webber, the Australian driver of the Williams F1 Team, is also still looking for a 2007 drive. Though, Webber is negotiating with Sir Frank Williams to stay with the team.

Jacques Villeneuve's contract ends at the end of the season and the Canadian has said at the Circuit de Catalunya this weekend that he wants to stay in F1. Robert Kubica is providing some worries though as the third driver of the BMW Sauber F1 Team is performing that well that the team is considering to put the Pole in one of the race cars next season.

A lot will happen the next couple of weeks and months but at this point the only thing that is for sure is Alonso's move to McLaren.
