Will McLaren and Toyota lose their vote?

By on

The Formula One Commission makes decisions regarding the face of Formula One, especially on regulations, what is now very important with the changes eyed in 2008. Because of restructuring, McLaren and Toyota are about to lose their vote in this commission.

The changes within the Formula 1 commission are just one part of the restructuring that must lead F1 through 2008. Most of the alternations will only be effected in 2008, but since the Formula One commission has to make a decision by June 30 about the regulations of the 2008 Formula One Championship, the changes in the commission have to be conducted sooner.

One of the biggest adjustments in the commission is the vote partitioning. While today all teams have their vote in the commission that is about to change to only 6 teams. Those teams will be selected on their location of entry, and thus only one team of each nation can be in it. Especially for Japan and Great Britain this causes problems, as for Japan there are the entries of Honda, Toyota and Super Aguri while for Great Britain there is Williams, McLaren and the new Prodrive team. For these groups, a team will be selected "most likely according to their life in F1". However, since McLaren and Toyota aren't always getting along with the FIA, these two teams are most likely candidates to lose their vote.
