Bridgestone to supply control tyre

By on

After the FIA announced they would introduce a single control tyre in 2008, Bridgestone has now been appointed to manufacture and supply that tyre to all F1 teams as of 2008 for at least 3 years. As Michelin announced not to be interested in this kind of regulation, Bridgestone will also be the only tyre supplier in 2007.

While many fans asked for a tyre company to be chosen other than Bridgestone for 2008, the FIA has decided otherwise. It is likely that teams currently running Michelin tyres will have a serious disadvantage. While current Bridgestone runners, including Ferrari and Toyota will be able to concentrate on general car development, the Michelin teams will undoubtedly have more work to do in order to adapt to their new tyre supplier.

At the same time, Microsoft MES has been selected as the official ECU supplier to the FIA Formula One World Championship in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

It was further noted at the meeting that because of the increased cornering speeds in Formula One, the World Motor Sport Council agreed to consult with the Formula One Technical Working Group regarding possible measures to slow the cars.
