Yesterday, Fernando Alonso, the Formula One World Champion, arrived in Lebanon for a brief visit to the Spanish UN Peacekeepers in the country. Alonso took part in a radio program on the Spanish channel SER and than returned home.

Spain is the third largest contributor to the U.N. peacekeeping force in Lebanon after Italy and France. Some 480 Spanish troops are currently in Lebanon, based near the southern town of Marjayoun. Spain's contribution to the U.N. force is due to rise to about 1,100 troops in the coming weeks.
