Thank you to the team - Fisico

The ING Renault F1 Team’s Italian driver, Giancarlo Fisichella, dedicates his excellent showing today to those who have been working without a break for many weeks. The Roman will start from 4th position on tomorrow's Monaco grid.

Giancarlo, qualifying went well for you, didn’t it?

"I’m proud of that performance; it bodes well for tomorrow. You know it was important to do something good for the team guys who’ve been working flat out for weeks to try and overcome our problems. Everybody’s been doing their utmost since this winter. This morning, they were all at the circuit at 05:00, for example. I real want to thank all the team members and to say to them that we’re on the right track."

Is the car better balanced this weekend?

"We’re starting to get to the bottom of our problems and the new front wing’s making a difference to our performance. There’s more grip and that’s positive. Of course, the gap separating us from our rivals would be greater if we were on a traditional type of circuit, but you’ve got to take advantage of the specific nature of a city layout."

What are your ambitions for the race?

"Anything’s possible in Monaco. I hope to make a good start and drive a consistent race. The podium’s the aim."

Is it possible?

"Of course. The McLarens are quicker but Massa’s Ferrari’s performance is very comparable to ours. Monaco’s one of the most difficult races on the calendar. You have to stay concentrated from start to finish. Physically and mentally you must be very strong. I don’t think I’ve got much to be worried about from that point of view as I’m in great shape. Tomorrow I’m going to push and I’ll do my best."

There’s a possibility of rain tomorrow...

"Being fourth on the grid I’d prefer a dry race even if I’m generally very quick in the wet. We were competitive in the rain this morning and that means we should still be quick in case of storms tomorrow. But it’d be better for everybody’s safety if we have a dry race."
