Ecclestone wants punishment for McLaren

Not everybody supports the McLaren Mercedes Team during the investigation the FIA launched as they suspect the Woking based team of team orders during the Monaco Grand Prix. Formula One Supremo, Bernie Ecclestone, says that McLaren should be punished and the maximum possible penalty is a total exclusion from the sport.

Ecclestone told the Daily Mail newspaper: "If there were orders, they would be getting off lightly if they get the same sort of fine as Ferrari. A fine for McLaren, with its money, would not have the same effect as docking points."

In 2002, the Scuderia Ferrari had to pay a fine of $1 million after the Austrian GP in 2002 as Rubens Barrichello had been given orders to let team mate Michael Schumacher win the race.

Of course there are also people defending McLaren. Sir Jacky Stewart is one of them: "For me, there is no irregularity (that needs to be punished)."

A decision is expected to be reached in advance of the next Grand Prix, which takes place in Canada on 10 June.
