Jaguar's technical preview of Spain

Although the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona is a race-track that teams know well , they cannot be complacent, on the contrary the competition is extremely tough at the moment and Jaguar Racing knows that all the teams are making incremental steps forward.

“We scored here last year with Mark, and we have undertaken numerous tests and even our launch here, so we are confident that the track will suit the R5,” said David Pitchforth - Managing Director. “We are constantly working on developing the car to increase competitiveness and I am pleased with how we have been working with our tyre partner Michelin, and confident about the tyre choices that we have made in advance of Barcelona.”

“Since Imola the workforce here at the factory in Milton Keynes has done a fantastic job, repairing damage to Christian's chassis in plenty of time for us to take it to Barcelona. The engine development has also been progressing and we have been pleased with our tests on the dyno in Northampton. We go to Barcelona focused on our goals and confident that we can achieve them."

Mark Webber suffered an intermittent electrical problem with his engine in Imola which frustratingly cost the Milton Keynes based squad places and probably a point in the race. Since the return of the R5 to the UK, the engine has been back at Cosworth Racing headquarters in Northampton (UK) where the team has been hard at work understanding the reasons for the fault.

“This was the first time this season that the team has had an engine fault at a race weekend and despite it Mark went on to finish the race which in itself highlights the steps forward that the Cosworth team has taken over the winter period,” explained Dr Mark Gillan - Head of Vehicle Performance. “Looking ahead to Barcelona, this is a circuit that all drivers and teams know extensively and as a result our data from this track is significant. We have been making incremental changes to the car since the start of the season and we are continuing to do so.”
