Ferrari lead Renault duo

For the fourth consecutive time already, Michael Schumacher was able to win the Grand Prix of Catalunya in his Ferrari. An exhaust problem at the after his first stop did however hamper his pace a little, but he still had plenty of room to keep his teammate and both Renaults off.

As usual these days in Formula One, the start was maybe the only exiting moment of the whole race. Schumacher started well, but he was no match against Jarno Trulli, who started like a rocket from his 4th grid place. He was in no time in front, and turned the first corner in, just in front of Schumi, Sato and a disappointing Montoya.

Michael overtook Trulli at the first stops, where a one lap difference was enough to push through and come out in front of the Italian. Barrichello however amazed by driving a very long first stint, and finally opting for a 2 stop strategy. It is a very big part of an explanation why Barrichello was not on par with his teammate in qualifying.

After the three, Montoya dropped slowly further down, while Alonso moved up in the positions. The Columbian's pace may be explained by his problems, which at a later stage of the race obliged him to give up. Ralf was therefore the only one to take points home for BMW Williams with his sixth place.

In front of him were on fourth the home driving Fernando Alonso, who eventually finished just behind his teammate and Sato, of whom I think he should've been able to do better with his BAR.

The point finishes were completed by Giancarlo Fischella, who fulfilled his own expectations with the Sauber. The last points was brought home by BAR's Jenson Button, who had a difficult race starting from 14th place after his small error during qualifying.

The Spanish GP was also the first with 7 abandons, the highest number so far in the season. It is remarkable that both McLarens made it to the finish, however only in 10th and 11th position.
