Ferrari celebrated its fourth 1-2 of the season in minor, as FIAT boss Umberto Agnelli had passed a earlier in the week. The joy after the race was very limited, and champaign wasn't sprayed by both the Scuderia drivers. Button on the other hand was happy to be a 'lucky' third.

Schumacher on a light three stop strategy opened up a massive gap of over 12 seconds which was good enough to get him back out in seventh position before the other cars even pulled into the pits for their first stop.

Rubens Barrichello though played his two stop strategy perfectly and ended up in second place giving Ferrari their fourth 1-2 of the season. The Brazilian had some problems towards the end of the race too, as he said his car felt strange after a collision in the first corner with Takuma Sato at the Castrol S. Sato passed, but had to change his front wing, and say his engine blow a few laps later.

That gave third position to BAR’s Jenson Button who captured his fifth podium in seven races.

Renault had a quiet day and finished in fourth and fifth positions lead by Monaco winner Jarno Trulli followed by Fernando Alonso. Both men made some mistakes in the first few laps but drove a solid race afterwards.

Sauber put Giancarlo Fisichella on a two stop strategy after the Italian had to change his engine during the weekend putting him at the rear of the grid. He pushed his way to sixth place though giving Sauber again some greatly deserved points.

Mark Webber gave Jaguar two definitely needed points as he Australian captured seventh position.

Juan Pablo Montoya took eighth position for Williams after himself and team-mate Ralf Schumacher collided at the first corner in the opening lap causing the German to get out of his car in the first corner.
