Red Bull auctions F1 car for charity

In what must be the most spectacular lot offered on eBay, Red Bull is auctioning a Formula One car for charity. With a starting price of just one euro, the car David Coulthard drove in the Silverstone Grand Prix last year is going on sale on March 13.

To raise money for Wings For Life, the charity which funds research into spinal injury, Red Bull is auctioning off some of the most interesting and unique second-hand sporting goods the internet auction site has ever seen.

David Coulthard said: “It’s a unique opportunity to own a piece of racing history and I hope a Formula One car would go for over a hundred thousand as, at the end of the day, it’s a Formula One car.

“They are works of art, so it would be nice if it could be out on display somewhere with a message about what Wings for Life is. The more we can educate people about the charity the better it is.”

As well as DC’s car (in the Faces For Charity livery, sporting the pictures of hundreds of F1 fans) there are motorcycle helmets from world champions Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa, ski-jump helmets from Olympic champions Adam Malysz and Thomas Morgenstern, equipment from world-record holders, B.A.S.E. jumpers and surfing legends. It’s not just machines, cars and goods which are up for grabs, fans can bid for sightseeing tours in the Flying Bull’s historic DC 6 and B-25J aircrafts. Alternatively, they can compete against the reigning Austrian football and ice hockey champions, participate in a game of football against FC Salzburg or take part in a training session on ice with the Red Bulls.

The auction starts on March 13, just days before the new F1 season launches in Melbourne and runs until Sunday, March 30.For more, see the website at www.wingsforlife.com/ebay
