Schumacher confirms title challenge

After finishing third last weekend at Magny-Cours, the gap between Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher is now 'only' 29 points. Schumi does not give up his hope for the title yet. At the next GP at Silverstone Schumacher wants to fight back to remain at the top for his eight world championship title.

The reigning world champion said: "Firstly, the second half of the season is beginning just now, and realistically, the gap to Alonso can still be closed. Formula 1 is a sport that changes very quickly, and therefore, it would be absurd to give up on the title now"

But Schumacher does see that his team still needs to catch up with Renault and McLaren. "The gap to Alonso is larger than we thought and Kimi Räikkönen's performance was impressive as well. We had to be happy with third place, as the race could have gone worse also. Looking at the times we got on Friday and Saturday though we had expected to race for victory."

The star of the Ferrari team said:"Now we have to work at being competitive on every day of the race weekend, most importantly, we have to believe in ourselves and stay focused on the job, in order to compete at the front of the field."

We will see what the reigning world champion can do on the track of Silverstone this weekend.
