Alonso escapes Monaco penalty

Fernando Alonso has escaped a penalty after being summoned by the stewards on Thursday afternoon. Alonso had to explain why he had driven an entire lap after he touched the barrier in St. Devote. The Spaniard lost his rear wing and caused a red flag situation.

Talking to the Spanish newspaper 'Diario AS', Alonso said: "I told them that I thought I had driven safely, without endangering anyone, and also that there wasn't any good areas to stop."

Alonso received no penalty for the race at the tight street circuit where overtaking is almost impossible. "I thanked them, and that's it," Alonso concluded.
