High chance of rain at Monaco

Monaco is famous for its Casinos alluring gamblers from all over the world. This year, the race in the principality possibly also could turn out to be a gamble - a rain gamble. At every Formula One circuit, rain makes for particularly difficult conditions. In Monaco, however, wet conditions represent a particular threat as the track doesn't allow for any mistakes.

"Monaco represents an exceptional challenge," explains Willy Rampf, Technical Director of the BMW Sauber F1 Team. "Here, even the slightest mistake can make a sudden end to a driver's race."

According to the forecasters, the rain probability for qualifying and race amounts to 60 to 90 percent. And Nick Heidfeld stresses that a wet track can make a major impact on the course of the race. "Should it be raining, there is a rather big chance of seeing a surprising winner on the podium."

Nick continues: "I also am anxious to see how the drivers will cope with having to drive without traction control, here. We already have witnessed several mistakes, in the previous races. And in the case of rain in Monaco - something we haven't experienced in the season to date - the race definitely will be a real thriller."
