Up to the final races

As the Renault F1 Team is working flat out to prepare for the final three races of the season, the stats they have clocked up since Melbourne look pretty flattering. Since the opening race of the season, the Renault F1 Team has put in its strongest performance since returning to Formula 1 in 2002.

After 16 rounds of the championship, the Renault R25 has taken seven victories (six for Fernando and one for Fisico), five pole positions and three fastest laps. The Renault F1 Team drivers have scored 14 podiums, including two double podiums in Melbourne and Monza. What’s more, they have started from the front row nine times. The Renaults have covered nearly 7900 km in the races this year, including approximately 2000 km leading a Grand Prix.

For Renault, the 2005 season has allowed the team to extend a winning heritage that stretches back to Jean-Pierre Jabouille’s victory in the 1979 French Grand Prix. Since them, a 100% Renault car has won 24 world championship Grands Prix. The team has moved ahead of Tyrrell in the standings (23 wins) and is now aiming for Benetton’s tally of 27. The Renault diamond has sat on pole 41 times, set 22 fastest laps and taken 66 podium finishes. Renault cars have scored 680 World Championship points since 1977.

After his dramatic start to the season, Fernando Alonso has now led a Grand Prix 22 times in his career. He is 27th in the overall standings, between Mario Andretti and Alberto Ascari. The Spaniard has already moved ahead of Jacques Villeneuve, Jacky Ickx and Carlos Reutemann, some legendary names in F1. Giancarlo Fisichella has also made progress in the standings: the Italian has led 8 Grands Prix since the start of his career, which puts him between Jean-Pierre Jabouille (7) and Patrick Tambay (9), both of whom were stalwart Renault drivers.

Since last November, the Renault F1 Team has tested for 60 days, which puts the team in sixth position behind Ferrari, Toyota, McLaren, BAR and Williams. In terms of the mileage covered during this testing, Renault climbs to fourth position with nearly 44,000 km – which encapsulates perfectly the team’s philosophy of economic efficiency, and mechanical reliability.

Hopefully for RenaultF1 these statistics will be extended with the Drivers championship title and the Constructors' championship.
