id like to see an overhead layout of the pitlane along with the paths the penalized drivers took compared with others that didnt. like, if drivers didnt cross over any illegal boundaries, and never literally broke the actual speed limit, it seems like BS to get a penalty.

if penalties are gonna start being handed out during races for invisible discrepancies... well it goes perfectly with the way these engine rules have gone so far

They were warned.

They measure the time between 2 points. The shortest line between 2 points is a straight, and they argue that the drivers took a shorter line. It would follow that the “standard” FIA path is not a straight line, or not the shortest possible straight line. Not exactly bulletproof.

I refuse to believe the 2 seconds rumour too until the team can prove otherwise. But it is imperative that this update is completed before Hungary because they cannot wait until the end of August to decide on car direction for next year.

The truth is, the regs have been like that for decades. Gas has raced there several times. He knew the regs. Tried to get an advantage, miscalculated or forgot. Then got caught.

Nothing to do with the regs. By the regs he wasn't speeding at all, probably none of them were.
The measurement is defective.

Why didn't Gasly get a penalty for speeding in the pitlane over the previous 8 years he's raced at Monaco? The rule didn't change, the way they measure it didn't change...His approach this year did change though. Between FPs, Qualifying and the race, he must use the pitlane limiter 20 times a year @ Monaco.....If a guy has done something 20 times a year for 8 years and never gotten it wrong now gets it wrong only during the race twice ...something he's doing changed.

You can say what you want about how it's measured but he knew the rule going in and has known it for now 9 years! He better learn it cause it will be the same next year.

He abided by the rules and still got penalized.

Irrelevant. It's not the driver's responsibility to work around the useless FIA measurement system. It's the FIA's responsibility to measure the speed right and not punish drivers who weren't speeding.They reined Russel's race and Gasly's as well.

ok, so what is the rule?

Is it that you can't go faster than 60KPH in the pitlane? or is it ? in the pit lane you can't go from point A to point B in less than X time ?

The way I understand it...it is...That you can't go faster than 60KPH in the pitlane as measure from point A to point B in less than X time.

They didn't have any updates. Honda implemented something to reduce vibrations, but that's not a PU update, and probably has a weight penalty. Also it was said that the engine cannot be run at full power until the mounting is redesigned, so there is a lot to gain. Of course it's entirely possible to mess things up again, but less likely.
