If you compare it to the Ferrari, there's much much less porpoising in the McLaren at the back straight.

Im hoping they somehow found the magiq setup that turned on the whole car more realisticly, track layout and very grippy tarmac

Like was said before, get on top of the brake issue so they could generate front tyre temp - look how long these tyres take to get into the window to see how vital that is - and then you get get the car into the setup window better. 2022 cars are massively setup dependent, you compromise for a small issue and suddenly you're half a second down.

For the same reason we're gonna see the mid-pack cars bouncing up and down for the first half of the season on pace at different tracks.

How does this account for Bahrain, where the danger was that the tyres cooked too quickly?

It's about thermal management. Bahrain was a runaway condition. The team is now in control.

So we think the Bahrain weekend was just us really badly in the back foot due to brake issues and that once controlled we have restored performance alongside what was expected following testing?

Have you heard anything around the direction of upgrades Philip? The thing that strikes me at the minute is we look a bit draggy- I know some of that is these new spec cars but considering how easy it is to follow now, even with DRS we were struggling a little. Compare that to say a Perez in a Red Bull who managed one pass without DRS and you’d imagine one target may be to find some of that straight line strength which we had for 3 seasons in the last regs.

The car was clearly nursing a significant problem that started a few laps after the 2nd SC. Lando was asking for permission to push multiple times but the team told him no. The team also told Daniel to hold position. You can't judge pure pace of the car based on the last 1/3rd of the race.

Also, this is a tough track to pass. The Alpines have been the third best team so far this season and OCO could not pass ALB in a Williams on hard tires that he had on for the entire race! Same for BOT and STR.

Nothing on sidepods I've heard, only floor changes, still some rear brakeduct iterations, weight saving parts.
