Good point. Renault's future was looking pretty unsure at that point.

What is this dislike of Ocon from some people? He's scored the best two finishes of the team (first and second) while his much more experienced team mates only managed third. Also, compared to his well publicly loved team mates (Ricciardo and Alonso) he is very loyal. Ricciaro announced his departure of the team a year before his contract was up, destabilising a whole year and Alonso, well... how to publicly shame your employer while staying quiet. Even when Ocon was a Mercedes youngling and things didn't go as planned, no bad words or burned bridges. Or is it just that he doesn't come across as the next Verstappen or Leclerc?
He's just not gonna win. It takes him forever to get the car setup right and he has Alonso's data to look at this year. He's gonna make the car look like cr@p without Alonso there next year.

But Ocon is a race winner..
Also he is loyal. Something Alonso knows nothing about.
We need to look on this on a management and business perspective. Alonso is simply not good for business.
He perfromaces do not outweigh the other baggage that he brings and the risk of stability.
Also he has had a podium capable car, while starting high up the grid, and just hasn't made much of it.
He few flashes of brilliance do not really equate to great results. He is replaceable.
In fact I would have replaced Alonso with Piastri.
For Sure!!

You can be sure that any agreement they signed with another team had a clause getting them out of the deal, if Alpine exercised their option before the deadline.

This is really poor management by Alpine - they really have none to blame but themselves.

Fernando and Oscar both made their requirements clear and Alpine failed to meet any of them.

Interesting that Stroll only offered Vettel a one year deal... A WC that is still relatively young... Maybe that's why he really left who knows. Well, if that is true than Alonso should have given the chance to Alpine to match. What is up with these drivers and their egos? Renault/Alpine and Alonso go way back and have history and success and it's really his F1 family. He really did not what to stay and should have been upfront about it, despite what he said to the media... Was Ocon too much to handle... starting to think so... Alonso likes having a #2 driver next to him either in status or by destroying him during the season. He did not destroy Ocon - the kid has held his own. Stroll relished the idea of sticking it to Otmar and Alpine - probably fancied himself a $1,000 bottle of Champagne when the news hit. Sad for Alpine.
You see real Alonso now. wait and watch after summer break.

Ocon win race with help of Alonso if Alonso not blocked Ham for 8 laps, Ocon is not a race winner
because he is french and he drive for french company so they have to give support. Even Rossi did that else you will be screwed like alain prost etc
All information coming from Alonso side to make care derivable. You will see Ocon's real performance next year.

Possible confirmation of the July 31 deadline from Otmar, if true it seens Alpine missed this deadline and their "legally correct" position may be incorrect.

There is no pressure to find him a seat as it’s only April. But in July, the pressure will certainly be there.

Actions speak more than words, Ocon not at level of Alonso, sorry

Ocon win was thanks to Alonso team play.
He stay 3 years at Mclaren with a shitty car and engine. So some loyalty has.
If you don't make him feel welcome he will leave as everyone else will do.

He won that race on Merrit.
Max is WDC because of Checo fighting Lewis many times and Masi giving him the title. Apparently i cannot say he is a wdc. So its unfair to say Ocon is not a race winner.

Ok so what are the options for 2023 ?

Gasly or Ricciardo ?
Piastri who's gonna be legally obliged to assume is contract ?
I would guess their first choice is Danny, and that he is willing to go there. 3 happy sides move on.

I would also guess that the 'Piastri affair' is going to roll on for some time yet, and if I were running the team I think Gasly is a better option.

I am not saying a better driver, but he has several years and several cars experience.
Alpine believe they can Force Piastri to stay for 3 years. He can either drive for them or not but Alpine think that he's under contract with them as long as they offered him a contract. Which would mean he can't drive anywhere else. So I think we need to wait till the lawyers figure that out.
Yeh, could easily get messy quickly. There has to be personality conflicts involved to go South this quickly.
It seems to have gone well beyond disagreement over a signature discussed in an office or on a phone.

[BREAKING]Piastri has signed for McLaren for 2023 replacing Ricciardo!
The FIA's contract recognition board ruled that there was no valid contract between Alpine and Piastri before 2023, leaving McLaren free to agree a deal with the Australian.

Piastri's deal with McLaren was said to have been finalised on the evening of July 30, before Fernando Alonso's move to Aston Martin was confirmed on August 1.

Under Formula 1's regulations, Alpine cannot challenge the board's decision, as F1 teams have previously unanimously decided that it is the highest body that can rule on contractual matters.
Wow! Alpine really screwed up!

Did they? They ended up with Ricciardo (if he is actually going there)
