How much fuel F1 cars use to run 1km?

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

The FIA estimate for Melbourne is 2.8kg of fuel per lap.

... so 0.5kg per km, something than 0.7L per km.
1L = 1.4km :wink:

lets look at this from a differnet perspective.

a 8 second stop results in 12x8 L going on board = 96L of fuel.
This last around 24laps.
therefore 96/24 = 4litres per lap.

a lap is around 5-6km long so you're looking at a fuel consumption of around 4/5 or 0.8Litre per kilometer.

That's 80L/100km...10 times less than the avg. passenger car milage of 8L/100km.
Not bad for 18,000 rpm. Avg. car hits 6000 rpm.

Who hits 6000 rpm in the average road car? Even in my rotary(10Krpm) I shift at 3-4K rpm, unless I'm blowing out the carbon.

3-4K?
You're shifting way too early dude. What's the purpose of having a sports car with 10K limit if you don't use the full power band? My automatic trans. minivan hits 3-4K during hard acceleration. My Civic Si has 8K limit & I frequently hit 5-6K during spirited driving. I'm not suggesting to speed on your neighbourhood streets, but to hold the engine in higher rev during normal driving speeds. The average car engine is most efficient in its middle to high rpm limit.

Cuz traffic is a bitch and gas aint cheap... so unless I'm at the track she stays under 6K...at the track it stays between 8 & 10K rpm.

Dont drive it on the streets that much anyway unless I got a long highway trip to pick up a small part(turbo or ECU) or something.

I have some 20009 figures which may help:

Australia 70.9L / 100km
Sepang 68.0L / 100km
China 72.9L / 100km
Bahrain 76.0L / 100km

Bah, you're boring. I regularly take my Integra Type R up to 9000rpm :D

Race ya!?

On the streets I only take it to 3-4... on the track I try to keep it over 7

Couple months back I went cruising on the highway at 3AM to relieve a little stress... was cruising down an off ramp and looked down at the speedo and was surprised to see 130mph(210kph) so i lifted off the gas...

Got up the next morning and saw I had a flat in the left rear... shuddered to think about a blowout at 130MPH... seems like I spun the tire on the rim on one of my hard starts so only a leak.

Heh. I'm a conscientious driver - no racing here :^o

How much power is the car putting out? I'm guessing it's a RX7...

yep RX-7... conservatively tuned to about 350hp at the wheels, gutted out so pretty light... 350hp from 1.3 Liter... I love it... why couldn't F1 allow wankels?!?!?!?

The old formula was 1/2 pound of fuel per horsepower per hour..

So 1000hp will use 500 pounds of fuel an hour. Gasoline weighs approximately 6.5 pounds per gallon so 76.92 gallons an hour at peak output and if the average lap requires peak output 60% of the time then 76.92 * .6 = 46.15 gallons an hour then how many laps can the car make it around the track in an hour on average? For fun sake say 30 times, so the car would be on average 1.5 gallons a lap...
