Aston Martin AMR22

No, they didn't, Mclaren ran it years ago, just the press and this forum didn't blow up about it then.
Ok, I really didn't want to go down this road of squabbling over who did what first.

Pretty sure AMR can order springs for the rear suspension in any stiffness they want. They're stuck with geometry that they get from the suspension but the springs and stiffness can be variable.
They can't just run any springs they want because if the suspension was designed with a significant travel limitation, then they can't go too soft otherwise they hit the bump stops which kills all your grip.

It sounds like the difference to RB is that RB has much more rear suspension travel allowing them to raise the rear of the car, and run softer springs without having to worry about crashing into the bump stops as the aero load picks up at high speed.

If you make a point that Mercedes "had it a year before everyone else" and someone corrects you to point out Mclaren had it long ago, I don't think that is "squabbling".

They can design any spring they with the same travel. Like I said, limited by the geometry.

You can't though, because you're limited by travel and your aero map - you need to keep the car in a very strict range of ride heights.

You can't just lift the back of the car and fit soft springs and expect anything to work right.

Well the aero map makes more sense to me. I also presume the first car was design around the rear suspension. While the B spec might have had to make some compromises.
I think the rear suspension is designed to work in a window larger than Merc would expect to use it, especially with new regs.

Pretty interesting video from scarbs here.
The 2nd half is all about Ferrari's rear suspension. I'm sure every one of those springs, torsions and dampeners multiple versions of each other that have more and less tension.

Where has it been reported that they can't use the W14 suspension?

As AR3, I am of the opinion that the regs state that you're allowed to purchase anyone's internal working from the current year. The only requirement is that team's design, at a minuim, they're own aero. They're not obliged to manufacture thier own aero but they have to design it.

The change in regs for 2022 would have made using any W12 suspension illegal in 2022. The W12 used hydraulics and those were band for 2022. You are allow to buy any current year part that isn't aero related. For example, you can't buy brake ducts.

Thank you for explaining, so any information about their suspension setup?
will they use latest Mercedes' or their own?

I know they found the Merc rear suspension limiting but I have no clue what that means for next year.

Cracking article from AMUS

https://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/for ... ison-2023/
This is the most eagerly anticipated car of 2023 for me. The rest of them we more or less know they will look similar.
