Ferrari was only behind because of an error prone (LEC) / slow (SAI) driver pairing in qualfying. Race is another thing.

I am worried, because if others get their act together, Ferrari with their drivers and Mercedes with their updates, maybe we see a 7-8 qualifying in Monaco and even if they are the 2nd best team in the race, they are stuck...

Noone knows what updates they had for Imola, Mercedes however will bring them to Monaco. Would not wonder me if AM delays their updates until Barcelona.
I’m not sure I agree with the assertion that AM is only ahead of Ferrari because of Ferrari’s drivers. I’m pretty sure you could put Verstappen or Alonso in the Ferrari and it’s still not getting on the podium in Miami.

If they rock up to Barcelona empty-handed then that’s more of a concern than anything, and I doubt that’ll happen.

As I wrote, race is another thing. But as we all know, normally qualifying is the race in Monaco...

Why to show your cards this year if with little work you are second? bring everything at the start of 24 and catch RB by surprise.

Fred knows he has a legit shot at winning this GP. It would be historical if he pulled it off. [-o<

If Bahrain was anything to go by, this car will be a monster in Monaco with that older spec rear wing. It was hard to believe Merc and Ferrari had the same compound tires as Aston in Bahrain

Qualifying is not Aston's and RedBull's forte though.

This weekend they go into it knowing they can tune the car to fire up the tires without consequence. I think it's better to have a car that's easy on the tires, and then make some extreme setting choices to fire up the tires for one weekend, than it is to go the other way around like Ferrari who cannot keep the tires under them no matter what they try on Sunday.

They knew in Australia as well. I think its just an inherent characteristic of cars with good downforce like AM and RB that they dont fire up the tires immediately. This is why Ferrari looks so much more competitive in qualifying. Not sure how much can be changed there with setup.

You can setup the brakes to run hotter. Toe/Camber angle can generate additional heat. Suspension stiffness can also impact.

Australia was still a circuit that required some race pace. You couldn't just sacrifice the race for qualy there. Alonso already showed last year that you can hold back 2 seconds a lap in Monaco and not be overtaken.

They got to pit some time and Fred will have been sitting there behind them keep the tires cool waiting to pounce!

Since I started being an Alonso fan in 2007, I heard him being referred to as Fred many times. That was the first time I ever used it, oddly enough.
