stuck at work din't get to watch fp2, did they do any race sim or only just qualy sims? OH boys they are off by like .5 sec WTH did McLaren cook, it has no weakness
They couldn't get S1 right until the third try, by then the tyres were way beyond peak performance.
Thanks, in Bahrain and i think even in japan they improved after friday.. lets hope for the same [-o<

Well, like he says in the post, it could "just" be engine modes.

I feel like Ferrari was hiding more today than McLaren, that's for sure. But the balance in S1 is still worrying either way.

This was only present on their long runs. You would expect them to be down on power or high on fuel because Leclerc was almost 1 second off Piastri's pace. On the performance runs, balance on the softs wasn't good at all though. I thought he made a mistake in the first chicane, but apparently the car is horrible through there.

Then of course, Lewis seems to be struggling here so far, which is also not good. If Leclerc can piece together a great lap, they can be in for a good result tomorrow in quali, but if the balance isn't sorted out for the race, then it won't matter much even if Leclerc puts it on pole.

Merc's onboards looked rough - bouncing and lots of oversteer.

I mean, they were errors, but it's because the car has 0 rear grip to start the lap. The completed lap was done on 6 lap old softs

Re: 2025 Scuderia Ferrari F1 Team

Watched FP2 late.

Some info from Charles onboards

He was really strong on the Medium, but Norris slowed on his best M lap on the straight. Bryan mentioned they thought he would have been two tenths quicker.

On the soft run.
Try 1, Charles aborted early, queried what was going on with the car acceleration (as if it had changed compared to the M). Bryan suggested "new set" tyres but gave him an engine setting.
Try 2. Lost the rear out of T2 aborted, Bryan gave another 2 engine settings during the rest of the lap. All three of the setting were not typical "engine 1 or 4", I am assuming it was to fix the issue with acceleration or maybe temps as Charles aborted twice.
Try 3. Rear seemed light in sector 1, he aborted later in the lap, asked for -3 (-4) to the front wing as he was on the back straight before the last turn.
Try 4. Was the lap that got him P4. Charles was relatively happy, mentioned tyre life. Bryan agreed, seems Charles improved braking compared to FP1 / start of FP2.

"Charles: 'It was a positive day because we learned a lot. We changed the car a lot. McLaren seems stronger than us, but I repeat, never say never, if we put everything together, I think anything is possible.'"

That is probably the most positive I have heard Charles in a long time. I hope for at least a podium given today

Seems like Leclerc is really positive, just like before the weekend even started so maybe those bad couple of runs with the softs were not unexpected. I would never bet against Leclerc on a Saturday especially, but I do hope they have the race pace sorted if he puts it on pole.

He tried a bunch of different things on his soft laps and was pretty pleased after his lap given the tyre life. I think he has something in mind for tomorrow.

Yeah, I mean, watching the session, that was my impression too: the car wasn’t easy but the pace was in there if they can get it right, so reasons to be optimistic. The soft run wasn’t at all representative and maybe the mclarens still have an edge but actually so far this year we’ve often seen them more ahead in practice than quali, so not surprised if this closes up and we get a new 2025 pole sitter this weekend (equally won’t be surprised if it’s a McLaren though!)

Leclerc's other part of the interview was quite positive too:

It's pretty clear in my head where I want to go for tomorrow. So we're going in that direction probably, and I hope it will pay off in qualifying.
I am also worried about the race pace, but I'm sure this is something they've considered. If anything Leclerc is more likely to sacrifice qualifying for the race, just knowing how he is as a driver and person.

Hamilton:

We will work together tonight to see [which setups to use] because through both sessions we were trying different things across both cars to then converge. So, wing settings and all sorts.

I don't know [what the car is capable of]. Just for me, I'm trying to see if I can get in the top 10 at the moment. Normally Saturdays it goes backwards. There is not a lot backwards for me to go from where I am. So, hopefully overnight we can make some improvements to the car. There were a few bits through the session that felt good. Just once we get to the soft tyres, it isn't there. So, we will make some changes overnight and hope that tomorrow we can come back stronger.
