Craig, can you confirm the width of the front tyres for next year? I'm lead to believe it's 245mm.

i heard the same on 5 live coverage from friday practice when they talk to Andy the bridgestone engineer.

Yep, that's where I heard it but I cannot find it in any of the regulations on the FIA website or any news sites either.

12.6.3 Tyre specifications will be determined by the FIA no later than 1 September of the previous season. Once
determined in this way, the specification of the tyres will not be changed during the Championship season
without the agreement of all competing teams.
I haven't found anything else related though.

on a separate note: this was changed from 2009 to 2010

Interesting that Luca Marmorini is back at Ferrari.
Given his disappointment with homologated engines I wonder why he is back.

Yes he was disappointed with frozen engines, but even moreso with Toyota's approach towards KERS, or lack there of...

So we see the last element of the dream team removed from the "new" Italian Ferrari team. Sad story.

Re the DDD and it's impact on the 2009 season I agree with Scarbs and Xpensive. It is another chapter in the long line of dirty politics between Ferrari and the FIA. Only this time it marked the end of the collusion to the Scuderia's advantage.

I'm in no way suggesting that this thing, is what the cars are going to look like other than I like the way it looks, BUT? Is there any sense in the artists interpretation of the rear of the car? How far from the tech regs would such a design be and would it even be practical?

I don't know where to begin with it :D

It breaks almost every reg in the book and the artist obviously has never used a wind tunnel or CFD.

Let's pose a different question. IF a team wanted to, could they run a design that didn't feature a rear wing as we know it.

McLaren have claimed that their diffuser design is a big departure from the norm. Even using the term "radical". We've seen RBR extending it's rear wing endplates down to the diffuser.

I'm struggling to envision what that could mean (radical). Are we going to see cars use more developed rear wing designs similar to that of the RBR "end plates extended to diffuser"

or are we to expect a more predictable approach with the teams moving all they possibly can in the way of the air to the diffuser and not making any significant changes to the rear wing/end.

With the regulations in the are unchanged, I'm struggling to understand where teams can use the term radical from what we already have.

Radical probably means a departure from last years efforts...so a real repackaging of the back half of the car to accomodate the fuel and a larger (by volume) diffuser setup. A re-jiged mechanical layout to allow for it.

Legally, a team could run without a rear wing if they wanted to, the rules demand wing endplates but they do not stipulate that bodywork (wings) must span in between them. Technically I doubt the car would be stable even at Monza without some load coming from the rear wing, as its less affected by changes in ride height.
