Even by ideal laps, the Top 4 would have been the same. Lando is so much slower than his teammate in the first two sectors that it almost doesn't really matter that he held the best S3, because his tires would naturally be in a better condition once he gets there.

8th fastest sector 1!
I think this shows that Red Bull have made a step. In all previous weekends (including Suzuka and Jeddah), when you would put the ideal sectors together, Mclaren would have 2-3 tenths margin. They have no margin here.

The only WDC contender this year is Oscar Piastri lol. Norris looks like a second driver and Oscar is driving a dominant race car.
yes, we have to face reality: Oscar won 4/6 races, with real chance to go 5/7. That's an absolute WDC pace.
Yes I know it's starting to look bad. I estimate that Oscar would need about 8 wins, and then finish the rest of the season on the podium which he could do more easily with 5 in the bank after tomorrow. So that's why they have to stop him at all cost, even if Norris finishes ahead tomorrow.

I never expected Norris to fold like this. That makes things more difficult. Marko said they need Mclaren to actually have a teammate rivalry and it doesn't exist at the moment...

It's Marko but...
"I think that tyre wear during the race will not be such a problem. You just have to see if you can gain something at the start or through strategy. Overtaking on the circuit is very difficult."

The other bit of hope for Max is Stella saying that they are trying to make the car more comfortable in qualifying, which is mostly for Lando. So, if they tweak the car to favour Lando more it could affect Oscar's pace like we saw last year although I doubt it will be to the same extent this time considering Oscar's confidence level at the moment.

Also to be noted is Oscar's bullet proof reliability, he is on one of the longest non DNF streaks in F1, surely his car has to give up at some point

Did Redbull do any sort of long run testing, in any FP ? Because I know Mclaren did, probably Mercedes did as well. Tomorrow will surely be a day of advantages getting played out from undercut or overcut with +5 etc. Then of course there is the threat of 'built up gaps' getting wiped out from safety car restarts, apart from lucky free pitstops.

I don't trust Marko a bit anymore. Let the track talk tomorrow.

It will be only 22-23 celsius during the race. I doubt that tyre wear will be a huge problem, at least from thermal degradation, Mclaren will not have the same advantage as in Miami.

I stopped trusting him since post-quali interviews of Austria 2024. Either he doesn't understand technical stuff about the car or he is just plain lying. I simple 'skip' when I come across a quote or statement from him, even if he is occasionally speaking sense.

They are building the spare tub for Tsunoda. So that's a full write off.

Why is the car so slow in T8? 10 kmh down on PIA, RUS and NOR and even compared to 2024 RB20. Strange. Saving tyres?

This is one of the first weekends where we don't see a massive margin between the improvements of Mclaren and Red Bull year over year. They have only improved 1 tenth more. The tires are softer, but the relative comparison is interesting.

I'd be surprised if it turns out to be an issue as well. Apart from maybe the Mercedes and Alpines, no one really had much deg at all in practice, and usually things only get better over the weekend.
