Probably 2 more laps and he was past I think. Was good drive by Lewis

oscar is too nice... he shouldve done a schumacher chop. also looked like he braked too early into turn 1.
We've seen their attempt to undercut, they threw Piastri into a world of traffic.cplchanb wrote: ↑18 May 2025, 16:40not so fast... he won mostly today because of the timely vsc which gave him a world of space to relax and give him tyre choice freedom for the sc.... had it been a normal race who knows how mclaren wouldve done on undercut...not to mention this track is like suzuka where its very difficult to make passes.
norris is quite trash at this track. but bear in mind theres only 1 real passing spot whch is turn 1. norris spent 2 laps falling further and further back so that once he cleared oscar there was no chance to catch max in time. mclaren bottled their strat today.Sevach wrote: ↑18 May 2025, 16:41We've seen their attempt to undercut, they threw Piastri into a world of traffic.cplchanb wrote: ↑18 May 2025, 16:40not so fast... he won mostly today because of the timely vsc which gave him a world of space to relax and give him tyre choice freedom for the sc.... had it been a normal race who knows how mclaren wouldve done on undercut...not to mention this track is like suzuka where its very difficult to make passes.
Then Norris couldn't catch him either, at any stage.
Believe upgrades really opened some avenue for the Bulls. So championship might be open from now on.Spacepace wrote:The upgrades helped Red Bull I'm sure but I would say that some of the pace was track specific and Verstappen executing everything and a lucky safety car/VSC. I mean look at how Ferrari's pace looked I wasn't expecting that. We'll get a better idea of how the pecking order looks in Spain but I think Red Bull still has work to do
My guess was just that the free air allowed Verstappen's pace to look like that compared to McLaren. Although even when Norris got past Piastri after the safety car he couldn't close in on him so who knows. We also have to consider that McLaren's tyre advantage is degredation the problem in Imola is the rear tyres blisteringmiguelalvesreis wrote: ↑18 May 2025, 16:49Believe upgrades really opened some avenue for the Bulls. Even on the tire usage, we didn't see any big advantage on the McL today
Ferrari race pace was great. Not expecting that. And Ham was unlucky to loose position to Ant on the 1st lap because after being able to clear, he was clearly faster.
Mercs pace was a bit of a disappointment today. They were just slow. Russel was lucky to be able to keep in front of Sainz

Verstappen had a commanding position before the VSC, 10s ahead of Norris and Piastri on burned out tires.Spacepace wrote: ↑18 May 2025, 16:43The upgrades helped Red Bull I'm sure but I would say that some of the pace was track specific and Verstappen executing everything and a lucky safety car/VSC. Thursday they were calling him a specialist, remembering the time he fought for pole in a car that didn't deserve it.
I don't think its Oscar is too nice I just think he was caught napping unusually for him. He was aggressive against Max and Kimi in recent races - pushed (as the rules allow) them off the track taking a dive up the inside though this time he was the on in the lead. Last year he overtook Lando when they were both battling Max was a little cheeky but the move was there and Oscar took it Lando wasn't too happy about it. But think it was just one of the little lapses Oscar still has.
When did I put his lead down to luck? I said he got lucky with the VSC/safety car because he gained 10sec from the VSCSevach wrote: ↑18 May 2025, 17:00Verstappen had a commanding position before the VSC, 10s ahead of Norris and Piastri on burned out tires.Spacepace wrote: ↑18 May 2025, 16:43The upgrades helped Red Bull I'm sure but I would say that some of the pace was track specific and Verstappen executing everything and a lucky safety car/VSC. Can't put it down to getting "lucky" with the VSC in any way.
Not the proper use of the word dive bomb.
He decided to defend the inside. He had to take it easy there. The problem was the suboptimal launch.Hoffman900 wrote: ↑18 May 2025, 17:11I think Oscar was too busy covering George and figured there was no way Max was going to try that. Max did.
