Mercedes W16

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

What’s weird about the FIA Document is that Racing Bulls side pod changes wasn’t listed neither was the changes to the Redbull via the sidepod inlet.
I've noticed that some of the teams seem to be taking more liberties with the update declaration document recently. Maybe the FIA not really enforcing any clear standards or penalizing inaccuracies/omissions is leading to this.

Am I seeing things or has the suspension geometry been changed? The angle of photo is a little different but not that much.
I think the body work is thinner, so it just looks that way.
Man I really don't think so. If you look at the shrouds you can see that theres a seam a few inches out from where they exit the body. If the body was thinner in that area, there would be a bigger distance from the surface to that seam, but there is not.

You are very correct on what you're seeing, I guess me and you have eagle eye vision that we notice the differences between the 2. Believe I would've said you're wrong if that was the case, and clearly you're not spreading misinformation.

At least the car now seems s*xy AF. Don't know how much performance they've gained, but it sure does looks like a beauty.

Thank you for posting this. I have no idea why does it takes 5-6 times to tell people something soo obvious was changed and look at you like you're crazy? #-o

Judging by what I read from AMuS, your point about the FW spec being more rigid was also correct as well. Although I still think they just incorporated that component into the design change rather than increased rigidity being the impetus for the new spec. :)

Or, they aren't completely sure the new FW will work as intendes so they're testing it now. If it doesn't work they can still use the old one and figure out what is wrong with the new spec

I'm not on the pessimism that they aren't sure, pretty obvious they're just using it to see how much the car will be affected by the changes. Seems like the car is performing not that much different vs the older spec.

The pushrod is almost horizontal.
How do they get good motion out of it?
It's as crazy as the mclaren front suspension.

The control arms are more agressive with anti squat. Yes I know this can be for aero reasons and not mechanical, but you know truly can tell.

Edit.. maybe that push rod is not a push rod. It's a rocker arm diretly mounted on the torsion bar spring basically. Like the old F1 cars that have coil springs levered directly from the control arm.
It seems like a modern intepretation.
I could be wrong. Would be nice to see a gearbox picture.
For Sure!!

I was also sceptical about this pushrod geometrie first, but all teams with mercedes gearbox run it since beginning of 24 so should be not that bad.
