Yes that is what I was saying. Put gravel traps down, Oscar knew he couldn't open up the steering this time.
Oscar could and should have opened up the steering. Rest assured if the roles were reversed Piastri would have been going through the gravel, we already saw that in 2021 between Verstappen and Hamilton in that corner. Piastri let Max get the better of him, and he lost the race because of it.napoleon1981 wrote: ↑19 May 2025, 00:00Yes that is what I was saying. If Oscar did that he would have got a penalty.Cs98 wrote: ↑19 May 2025, 00:03Oscar could and should have opened up the steering. This car can seemingly ride kerbs now, and they seem to have made a step that allows them to find better setups according to Verstappen, so 'max factor' could deliver something special. i would imagine it'll be between Max and Piastri
You obviously have to combine it with the right brake pressure to make sure you are marginally ahead from the apex whilst staying on track, which was fully possible. Instead he got done like few have been done before. We don't have dunks in F1 but that kind of felt like a slam dunk. Someone needs to make a poster.chrisc90 wrote: ↑19 May 2025, 00:07If Oscar did that he would have got a penalty.Cs98 wrote: ↑19 May 2025, 00:03Oscar could and should have opened up the steering. Of course, the problem arose by Oscar not moving over to the ‘racing line’ allowing Max to take the corner as normal.
Given Max was behind George on the run up, Oscar had all the room to move over to the right and block Max off.
Rookie error. Oscar probably thought the inside would make it his corner under the ‘new’ driving rules, but Max showed him who was boss with that one.
I think they have chances, but red flags in qualy, VSC, and SCs can make for a bad result even if you are fast. You have to be very lucky with the 2 mandatory stops.
That's probably good for us. More randomness to hurt the McLarens who are outright favouritesAR3-GP wrote: ↑19 May 2025, 00:40I think they have chances, but red flags in qualy, VSC, and SCs can make for a bad result even if you are fast. You have to be very lucky with the 2 mandatory stops.
Previously it was more a matter of the conditions. Max said thermal deg in Suzuka was kept in check because sector 1 was re-paved and had more grip and less abrasive plus the lower track temperatures due to cloud cover and ambient temps. It's been speculated that Saudi was also kinder on the tyres because there was no direct sunlight. The overheating of tyres was contributed by both core and carcass temperatures. The issue of core temperature seems to have been addressed with the upgraded brakes. The carcass temp issue has been reduced thanks to less sliding.Cs98 wrote: ↑18 May 2025, 20:56It was for many cars, the question is why it wasn't for Verstappen. That will be the thing to keep your eyes on going forward, if RB truly has "found" something, or if it's just on certain tracks the deg is good, like Japan and Saudi.CjC wrote: ↑18 May 2025, 20:48I disagree, I wouldn’t have said Mclaren have lost anything.
Look at the pace today that Mclaren had over everyone else but Max. It’s Max that have improved rather than Mclaren ‘loosing’ something.
Fact of the matter is Mclaren didn’t have a soul destroying advantage over everyone in Japan and Saudi, now that the Red Bull has successfully upgraded by a minimum of 2 tenths Max can match and beat the McLarens now.
Thermal deg is McLarens real advantage and that wasn’t a factor today
Guys help me get clarified with basics of tyre deg :ispano6 wrote: ↑19 May 2025, 04:34Previously it was more a matter of the conditions. Let's see how the updates work for the slow corners, besides riding the kerbs that was a main weakness.
