If you call the overall distant 2nd fastest car the beast - ok then. Only toto and his push for TD039 made RB18 the beast.
1.
How much is too much in your opinion? "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." The team has a chance at a WDC this year, and not just a WDC but a 5th consecutive WDC, which has only been done once in history (by a single driver, Mercedes won seven straight WDCs). Seems that's a goal worth pursuing, and pursuing pretty hard. Next year has pretty dramatic changes on both the PU and aero side, so a bit of a complete unknown especially since RBPT is a brand new PU constructor.
For sure it's David against Goliath in case of RBPT.
They even hired THE engineers responsible for 2014 (or at least a good chunk of them)lio007 wrote: ↑19 May 2025, 19:40For sure it's David against Goliath in case of RBPT.
But there's still a chance the PU is going to be decent. Best in class, zero chance, but a repeat of 2014 is also hard to believe. They've hired some smart engineers.
air to air IC is the reason the Redbull's engine cover and sidepods are so 'big' compared to the McLaren.Henk_v wrote: ↑19 May 2025, 19:44I am hoping for a water/air inercooler in Barcelona
Somehow, something about the Honda engine keeps them using air/air intercoolers.
Makes sense the RBPT engine will be w/a. Makes sense to me to introduce it now. Get tighter packaging. Learn for a few months...
I can also imagine that the radical intercooler tech Merc started using in 22 might have been restricted for 3 years and is available now from the supplier.
So we assume. It is most likely to be the main limitation but I think it will be better than expected because right now everyone expects it to be completely useless. Also, I am very interested in seeing what Merc come up with given half their engineers are making RBPT engine.
So the checks did find something hmm. And there was a directive hmm.
Thorough inspection of Mclaren rear brake ducts on May 4th. TD on May 12th.
I meant the 2014 Renault PU.Henk_v wrote: ↑19 May 2025, 19:47They even hired THE engineers responsible for 2014 (or at least a good chunk of them)
2026 will be all about power deployment. The ICE itself is in a way less important.
