Live timing wasn't working 100% correctly today, but as far as I could see, both McLaren + Verstappen saved a set of new softs for tomorrow.

Why is pole 2 tenths slower than last year?

Probably just different time of the year as the race was held late June.

Well, it's pretty clear by now that the new TD actually helps McLaren. It's a shame for the whole FIA for doing this — it's like they're intentionally working against having a close and interesting championship. Why favor a team that already had the best car? It makes no sense at all.

yes they went in quali with one more set of soft (5), so they will have new H-M-S tomorrow

Leclerc will have new H-M-M

 Stop the nonsense. They had the best car before and they still do, the TD didn't change a thing.

Exact opposite teams lobbied against the flexi wings thinking it would put a stop to McLaren if anything it’s the teams complaining it’s backfired on

Much cooler last year. Track temp was 42C on final runs today. Last year was around 35C towards end of Q3.

How high was this temp compared to the other races this year?

Think Merc may have also. They only used 3 sets of soft in quali at least for Russell.

Ricardo did well when he was with Max before, but maybe back then the car wasn't entirely built around Max, but one of the reasons for Ricardo leaving the first time was he was feeling that RedBulls were favoring Max, so your guess is good as mine, but people just don't want to believe that for now, someday when Max leaves the team and some other driver drives then we might see almost similar pace between two teammates.
Daniel was 0.5s or more off Max in quali in multiple occasions. Back then he would be right behind him on the grid, like p4 or p6. Today that means you are out of Q1.
Maybe you are talking about 2018, the season when Ricciardo decided he no longer wants to continue where Max was being favoured, look at 2016 and 2017.
2017: In Barcelona and Monaco Daniel was 0.5s off Max, although not in Q1 but in Q3 which is not exactly the same. In Spa Daniel was 0.6s off Max in Q1 just like Tsunoda today, but could proceed into Q3 to qualify P6 again 0.5s off Max but still just behind him on P5.
In Mexico Daniel was 1.1s off Max in Q2 but still went into Q3 to qualify 7th 0.9s off Max.
and yeah, for sure that 2017 red bull car was already designed for Max and Max only, because we all know such gaps as 0.5s or more between teammates are completely impossible in F1.

yes, of course. and I hope we all can now finally put the idea that the only advantage Mclaren car has is its ability to protect its tires from overheating to bed, after Max set purple third sector during the hottest qualifier of the year on the most demanding track.
That car is simply the best by far car aerodynamically.
