I think it was tough to follow there, too. It's possible Lando was doing very well to get to 1.2s behind Oscar and hang there, but that said, what is hard for other cars isn't necessarily hard for the MCL39.BMMR61 wrote: ↑01 Sep 2025, 13:53Yeah, just kind of exploded that ridiculous idea. Arguably the most transparent team in F1. There was palpable grief over the loss of the #4 car across the McLaren personnel. Another great 1-2 lost.
Oscar does seem to have improved even across the 15 races this year. He seems to have a little extra performance that he holds in reserve, in other words he drives within himself nearly all the time. Yesterday he always looked like he was just setting a pace which he could regulate as and when needed.
Has it been confirmed that the engine can’t be used again? Stella said it was a chassis issue and not a Mercedes issue?crapu7 wrote: ↑01 Sep 2025, 15:496 engine related mechanical failures for the Mercedes powered cars so far this year, wow! We will probably see a few more till the end of the season.
Gutted for the championship fight, and the next race in Monza points will definitely get more distant. Surely he will get a new engine, and since the last one from Belgium being the last from the allocation, he will be starring at a 10 place grid drop ensuring his out of the fight.
Mclaren is quite a draggy car so taking a new engine in Monza will not make for a good recovery imo, thoughts ?
If the engine was deprived of oil, then it's a complete total loss on the ICE.Sergej wrote: ↑02 Sep 2025, 10:15According to this source, what failed was an oil fitting that connects the Mercedes engine to the radiator in the sidepod

I suppose first question is do they need another engine? I cant remember what happened last year but we spent the final third wondering when Lando would take an extra engine, and he didn't.FittingMechanics wrote: ↑02 Sep 2025, 09:49Both "activated" their ICE units. I don't think the engine used in Zandvoort is the one they planned to use in Monza. Why would it be? The car was expected to be super dominant in Zandvoort. I bet Lando does not use a new unit in Monza, or if he does, Oscar will be getting it as well because it was a planned change. The loss of a unit (if it is a complete loss) may come to hurt him later on but even with that I am not sure, Zandvoort is such a McLaren track that they probably used an old engine.
With the car being super fast, even taking a penalty won't be of huge consequence. If he qualifies behind Piastri (especially if it is 2-3 places behind) he can freely take an engine and run an alternate strategy on most tracks. The cars are close and Oscar is fast so you don't lose much if you start further back.
The engine reportedly auto shut down when the sensor kicked in.venkyhere wrote: ↑02 Sep 2025, 12:56If the engine was deprived of oil, then it's a complete total loss on the ICE.Sergej wrote: ↑02 Sep 2025, 10:15According to this source, what failed was an oil fitting that connects the Mercedes engine to the radiator in the sidepod
