He may feel that way, but that doesn't make it true. There are far more drivers who’ve never won a single race than there are who’ve claimed two driving championships. Plus, he’s competed in more races than anyone else—naturally, that means he’s also had more chances for things to go wrong.
Statistically, he's pretty damn unlucky. From my count, 61 retirements that weren't from collisions or spins. That's 14% of his races.

By comparison, Hamilton is at 5%, Verstappen around 9%.
Hülkenberg has earned a total of 608 career points across 246 Formula One entries (242 starts), with one podium, one pole position, and two fastest laps to his name.
What's your point? That's mainly down to Hulk not being in cars able to accomplish those heights. Doesn't mean he's unlucky.

The rate at which Alonso has retired from races from things out of his control is much higher than his peers, which would by definition make him unlucky. Now, "most" would take a lot more research but in modern times I don't think he's wrong.

That there is more than 1 way at looking at luck.

I think its pretty clear in what context ALonso is using the word but OK.

i mean, alonso himself considers himself the most unlucky driver ever, and i have a hard time arguing against it. dude just cant catch a break. until 2026. theres no f%^&ing way in hell he is stupid enough to quit before he drives the 26 car. if he did, he would need his head examined haha. id say the same for anyone that thinks its gonna happen too.

he has 2 wdc's sure, but hes also like 5 points away from having 5. youre right, there are many ways to measure luck. hulk never had a real choice to drive for teams that were destined to win championships, alonso picked ferrari instead of redbull (which was very logical at the time), which probably cost him 4 titles right there (yes im speculating heavy on that one). he then joined mclaren honda, which was logical given their history together, instead of staying at ferrari, where theres a good chance he could have won at least 1 more while mercedes were dominating. in hindsight people say he made bad decisions, or hes not a team player, but he didnt make any dumb decisions, it was just bad luck. and for sure, thats all just racing, and most drivers never get the chance to make those decisions, but alonso is in a league of his own with missed opertunities through little fault of his own.

Well, we lost 4 points and there was to surprise saftey cars :(
Yeah this year is starting to remind me of Alonso’s Alpine days where only his side of the garage had all the reliability problems. AM need to sort this out.
I wonder if that is because Alonso is pushing the car harder and so putting more strain on it?

(Not a criticism, in fact I mean this as a good thing - he's taking the car to its limit)

Interesting statistic for you.

There have been 1,141 F1 championship races and Alonso has started in over 1/3 of them (36.5%)!!

Next closest driver is Hamilton (32.6%), which actually surprised me as I forget how long he's been in the sport lol

Mr 1141 is presumably still wrongly counting the 1952 and 1953 WDC as F1 events
as the FIA did in faking the 'Ferrari 1000' WDC GP at Imola five years ago

They'll probably vaguely tell us what the problem was. As far as push the car harder, Stroll drove more laps than Alonso did. Plus, this was the 41st race with that front suspension design.

I was talking more in general tbh.

I was using the FIA's figures, so yes. They WERE officially F1 races, just run to F2 specs.

So you don't consider Ascari to be an F1 Champion?

If we ignore those 2 years then it's 37.07%. Even more impressive!!

The ‘breathtaking’ attributes that gives Aston Martin confidence for F1 2026
Aston Martin Chief Technical Officer Enrico Cardile has spoken of the “breathtaking” areas of the team’s base that give him confidence it can succeed in Formula 1 next year.

The Italian joined the Silverstone-based squad in August after a period of gardening upon his departure from Ferrari.

Cardile makes up an exciting team that is striving to make a successful interpretation of the new technical regulations that debut next season.

The 50-year-old will work alongside famed design guru Adrian Newey, a man upon whom the team is hinging its hopes on designing a race-winning machine.

In an in-house video released by Aston Martin on its social media, Cardile conveyed his delight at beginning work with the team, and explaining what his role entails.

“I’m very keen to have started to work for Aston Martin,” he said. “It’s super exciting to be a part of this team, because I truly, strongly believe that this team has everything it needs.

‘My remit is overseeing the development of the car, taking care of performance, aerodynamics, engineering design of the car, testing of the car, basically all the activities from the idea to the track.”

Newey’s ‘uncompromised vision’ leading Aston Martin to the top of F1

Cardile revealed his first impressions of the Aston Martin technology campus which is growing along with its F1 ambitions.

“There are many things that impressed me positively. The campus is absolutely amazing, and being an engineer, the wind tunnel is truly breathtaking for all the technology, for how advanced it is.”

Cardile also spoke of his high regard for Newey and how his nous is helping the team push for a genuine shot at reaching the top of F1, as well as that of Team Principal Andy Cowell.

“There is the uncompromised vision of Adrian Newey and the constant push for improving for refining every detail of the car,” he said.

“With Andy Cowell, I found a very rigorous engineer. Paying attention, like Adrian, to every single detail of the process and the way we do stuff, leading us to be the best team across the grid.

“People are extremely open on tackling these challenges together. Very open to change the way they are doing things.

“There is a strong will to progress, to improve. We will need time for growing.

“While growing, we will do our best for delivering great results.”
