So what does that area do? Do the openings capture air moving from front to back, top to bottom, or do they actually take air hitting the tire and does it move back up through the floor? Or none of the above lol.
As far as I understand it, it's a highly sensitive area that has a big effect on the way tyre squirt is managed, and the flow of air into the diffuser. It also generates local load itself. There is also freedom to introduce slots, vanes, flicks in the area, to enhance the control you have over the tyre squirt (potentially at the cost of local load generation).
